Sunday Gospel People have different ideas about Advent, or perhaps the days of December. The month of December brings thoughts of ‘there will never be enough time to do everything’ or ‘the sooner this month is over the better’. For some people time will be either too slow or run too quickly. Into this time there is Advent season. It is a time for our faith to wait on Christ. We wait in prayer and action, we wait in the joyful hope for the coming of the Lord Jesus. Our prayer is: ‘Come Lord Jesus, make no delay’. Whatever you feel about December with its good and not so good traditions, make time for your faith in Christ, who comes as one of us in all things but sin.

Pope Francis has invited every Diocese to participate in a Universal Synod on a process of journeying together as God’s people. We will listen to one another, dialogue with each other, pray, discern and make decisions together, to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world! Listening and speaking within the Church always involves prayer. The starting point of this journey begins with personal prayer and reflection. "Prayer opens hearts. It opens the ear to a listening that is more than hearing and makes us attentive to the action of the Spirit in our lives.”(Cardinal Grech). Pray for the success of our synodal journey and take time to reflect on the needs of the people in the community. We stand before You, Holy Spirit, as we gather together in Your name. With You alone to guide us, make Yourself at home in our hearts; Teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it. We are weak and sinful; do not let us promote disorder. Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path nor partiality influence our actions. Let us find in You our unity so that we may journey together to eternal life and not stray from the way of truth and what is right. All this we ask of You, who are at work in every place and time, in the communion of the Father and the Son, forever and ever. Amen.
