Sunday 9 October 2022

Twenty Eighth Sunday of Ordinary Time

(Year C)

Synod 2023: Communion, Participation, Mission.

Sunday Gospel When we take time to pray it is good to say ‘thanks’. Many times our prayers are rushed or we are either asking God to get something, or to take something away. But to have the wisdom and the serenity to say thanks to God for the gift of life and the ability to give and receive love is central to our faith in his plan for us and for the world. It’s not simply a matter of ‘counting your blessings’, it is a way of life, a particular attitude of grace. If we learn to be thankful for who and what we have, then we can give that grace to others, the gratitude that shows we have a true understanding of God and his love for us.

Four consecutive droughts, the ripple effects of the Ukraine war, climate change and Covid-19 have created the direst of conditions in the region. A fifth consecutive season of abnormal rainfall levels is now predicted, the war in Ukraine continues, the world is getting warmer and the pandemic has not gone away.
